The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has suspended its strike action, which it commenced on Friday, 12th September, and directed its members to resume on Sunday, September 14th.
The President of the association, Zenith Osunadare, in a message to BusinessDay, said the association decided to suspend the strike action after the federal government met some of its demands, adding that the government also promised to address other demands.
He stated, “We did this as a sign of goodwill and to assist Nigerians who are seeking healthcare in our various facilities. In two weeks we will review government’s response to other demands.”
According to him, other demands seeking immediate attention include unpaid arrears, the downgrade of membership certificate, manpower shortage, and the immediate release of a corrected circular on remuneration for doctors from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
The government has, however, addressed the payment of the Medical Residency Training Fund.
