The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. and the Nigerian Port Authority have received invitations from the House of Representatives to address the supervision of concessions and public-private partnerships that go back to 1999.
According to the Times, the CEOs have been invited to an in-depth discussion on PPPs and concessions, which will take place in Abuja, by the joint Committee on Public Assets and Special Duties of the House of Representatives.
Officials from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, the Federal Housing Authority, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and other organizations are also included on the summons.
Executives from the National Inland Waterways Authority, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Transition Company of Nigeria and Bureau of Public Enterprises have also been invited.
The investigation’s main representative, Ademorin Kuye, stated that “the need for this investigation arises from the need to rigorously monitor the results of PPP projects and concession agreements.”
He went on to say that “since 1999 these alliances and agreements have had a big impact on how Nigeria’s infrastructure has developed.”
He clarified that “a wide range of industries impacted by these public-private partnerships will be covered by the probe, including transportation hubs, power plants, the oil and gas sector, aviation, agriculture, and more.”
