Renault, Ford partner to expand European EV lineup

Ford recalls nearly 1.1m vehicles over rearview camera defect

Renault Group and Ford have unveiled a landmark strategic alliance to expand Ford’s electric vehicle lineup in Europe and boost both companies’ competitiveness in a fast-shifting automotive market.

At the heart of the deal is an agreement to co-develop two Ford-branded electric models built on Ampere’s platform, drawing on Renault Group’s EV strengths. The vehicles will be manufactured by Renault Group in northern France, showcasing the advanced capabilities of Ampere’s ElectriCity facilities.

In addition to their EV partnership, Renault Group and Ford have signed a Letter of Intent for a European light commercial vehicle collaboration.

Under the LOI, both companies will assess opportunities to jointly develop and manufacture selected Renault- and Ford-branded light commercial vehicles.

The CEO of Renault Group,François Provost, said, “Renault Group is proud to announce a new strategic cooperation with Ford, an iconic car manufacturer. In the long term, combining our strengths with Ford will make us more innovative and more responsive in a fast-changing European automotive market.”

Also commenting, President and CEO, Ford Motor Company, Jim Farley, said, “The strategic partnership with Renault Group marks an important step for Ford and supports our strategy to build a highly efficient and fit-for-the future business in Europe. We will combine Renault Group’s industrial scale and EV assets with Ford’s iconic design and driving dynamics to create vehicles that are fun, capable, and distinctly Ford in spirit.”

The companies said they will leverage the proven strengths of Renault Group’s Ampere platform, its EV manufacturing ecosystem, and its ElectriCity industrial facilities in northern France to produce two all-new Ford-branded electric passenger vehicles.

The Renault Group–Ford strategic partnership will bring together decades of expertise in the light commercial vehicle segment, along with the industrial scale and extensive supply networks of both companies, forming a powerful alliance set to drive innovation and efficiency across the European market.
