Remi Tinubu leather hub to boost Lagos global status – Obasa

Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, stated that the newly inaugurated Oluremi Tinubu Industrial Leather Hub is set to position Lagos as a global center for leather production and innovation.

Located in the Matori area of Mushin, the hub is expected to generate over $250 million in annual export revenue.

The hub is also projected to create 10,000 direct jobs, with more than 150,000 artisans set to benefit from training and start-up support designed to enhance productivity and establish Lagos as the leather logistics hub of West Africa.

Fitted with advanced industrial machinery for mass production of shoes, bags, belts, packaging materials, and other leather products, the facility was commissioned on Saturday as part of activities marking the three-day official visit of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to Lagos.

At the event, Obasa praised the Lagos government for its bold investment in industrial development.

“This is more than just a facility; this hub symbolises our resolve to harness the ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit of our people,” the speaker said.

“I am convinced beyond measure that it will empower artisans, create thousands of jobs, and position Lagos as a global leader in leather production and innovation.”

Obasa further lauded the decision to name the facility after the First Lady, calling it “a fitting tribute to her distinguished service as a three-term senator, her two decades of empowerment initiatives”.
