The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure has instructed its development institutes to prioritize in-house products and technologies to strengthen collaboration and drive commercialization.

Approved by Executive Vice Chairman Khalil Halilu, the policy mandates NASENI institutes to adopt each other’s innovations before considering external alternatives, the agency announced on Monday.

An internal memo dated January 31, 2025, addressed to acting managing directors and overseeing officers, detailed the implementation framework, emphasizing inter-institute patronage as crucial to NASENI’s commercialization strategy.

The directive requires NASENI’s 11 development institutes, along with emerging ones, to prioritize using in-house technologies, machines, and innovations—adhering to procurement laws—before making them available to external markets.

The circular states that the initiative is designed to enhance collaboration, strengthen NASENI’s commercialization strategy, and promote greater internal patronage of the agency’s innovations.

“The policy encourages the active promotion, integration, and utilisation of NASENI-developed products, ensuring they undergo real-world applications before
reaching external markets.

“This will not only boost confidence in the agency’s innovations but also refine them for broader adoption,” the statement said.

The directive mandates all institutes to include NASENI products, such as NASENI-branded laptops, in their procurement plans, subject to budget availability.

It also introduces internal pilot programs to test products in real-world conditions, enabling feedback and further improvements.

NASENI said it will organise bi-annual events to showcase innovations, share insights, and explore integration opportunities among institutes.

Institutes are also encouraged to set up mini-showrooms in key urban locations to exhibit their products alongside other NASENI innovations.

The statement noted that NASENI will conduct training sessions across institutes to equip staff with the skills needed to use and promote its products effectively.

Additionally, internal leadership will advocate for the adoption of NASENI-developed solutions to enhance market credibility and support external commercialization.
