A power outage has impacted at least eight embassies and several residential estates in Abuja.

The electricity distribution company attributed the disruption to a technical fault on the feeder supplying the affected areas.

AEDC disclosed that the latest in a series of recurring blackouts in the Federal Capital Territory affected the embassies of the United States, Turkey, Cuba, Ethiopia, Iran, Liberia, Egypt, and Japan, as well as surrounding areas.

Several residential areas were also affected, including Brains & Hammer City Estate, Today Estate, Dape District, Katsina Estate, Paradise Estate, Ochacho Estate, Kafe District, American Embassy Estate, and parts of Gwarinpa.

In a statement, the electricity distribution company assured residents and businesses that its technical team is working diligently to restore power as quickly as possible.

“We regret the inconvenience caused by this outage and appreciate our customers’ patience as we work to resolve the issue,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the company announced that a scheduled maintenance exercise on Sunday, March 23, 2025, will temporarily disrupt vending services for prepaid customers.

The statement read, “During this brief window, prepaid customers may experience momentary interruptions when recharging their meters or accessing vending platforms. Normal service will resume immediately after the maintenance is completed. This activity is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our service experience for our customers and ensure greater reliability and efficiency. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and truly appreciate your patience and understanding.”

Between March 18 and 23, the AEDC recorded seven power outages, impacting locations such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, Garki General Hospital, and the National Library.

Six of the outages were due to technical faults, while one resulted from planned maintenance.
