Pizza Hut UK is closing 68 restaurants and 11 delivery sites, resulting in the loss of 1,210 jobs after entering administration.
DC London Pie Limited, the company operating Pizza Hut’s UK outlets, appointed FTI Consulting as administrators on Monday.
A business falls into administration when it has become insolvent, unable to pay its debts, and has been placed under the control of administrators.
The goal of administration is to rescue the company if possible or, if not, to sell its assets to repay creditors in an orderly way.
However, the brand’s global owner, Yum! Brands, has reached a deal to rescue 64 UK restaurants, securing 1,276 jobs.
The popular family dining chain, known for its pizzas and salad bars, has faced mounting financial difficulties in recent months and had also entered administration earlier in January.
The Managing Director of Pizza Hut Europe and Canada, Nicolas Burquier, said the acquisition was designed to “preserve the guest experience and protect as many jobs as possible.”
He noted that the company’s top priority is to maintain smooth operations at the acquired sites and support staff throughout the transition period.
