Workers at Pizza Hut outlets across Scotland, operated by the Glenshire Group, have staged protests over alleged “wage theft” and violations of annual leave and rest break entitlements.
Unite the Union has filed two collective grievances on behalf of cooks, cleaners, and delivery drivers.
Unite the Union claims Glenshire Brands has systematically undermined the pay and conditions of about 200 workers since taking over the Pizza Hut franchises in 2022.
Glenshire affirmed its commitment to “robust employment practices” and said it is actively engaging with employees to address concerns and resolve issues promptly.
A protest took place Tuesday afternoon outside a Pizza Hut store in Leith, Edinburgh.
“The behaviour of Glenshire Brands across Pizza Hut outlets in Scotland is deplorable and reprehensible,” Sharon Graham, Unite general secretary, said.
“The company has launched a full-on assault on workers’ pay and conditions which will have a serious impact on our members’ take-home pay.
“he Pizza Hut workers can be assured of Unite’s complete determination to hold this rogue employer to account.”
One key complaint concerns the removal of a £1.45 per delivery “drivers’ commission,” which was paid on top of an hourly wage.
Unite argues that this payment, which could total up to £80 per week, was an implied part of the job’s terms and conditions when drivers were hired.
Unite claims that because drivers cover their own vehicle costs without mileage payments or maintenance support, their actual earnings fall below the national minimum wage.
