French prosecutors have initiated an investigation into Elon Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), over allegations of algorithmic bias.

This action follows a report submitted by centrist lawmaker Eric Bothorel on January 12, expressing concerns that X’s algorithms may have distorted the operation of automated data processing systems, according to Reuters.

The Paris public prosecutor’s office has assigned magistrates and specialized assistants from its cybercrime unit to analyze the report and conduct initial technical assessments of X’s algorithms.

This investigation highlights the increasing global scrutiny of social media platforms and their influence on public discourse.

Notably, it coincides with an upcoming AI summit in Paris, which will feature global leaders and tech executives.

Elon Musk has recently faced criticism for his involvement in European politics, particularly for his support of right-wing parties.

In Germany, Musk endorsed the Alternative for Germany party during the 2025 federal elections, which led to concerns about foreign interference in domestic affairs.
