Paramount, Activision ink deal for ‘Call of Duty’ movie

Paramount has struck a deal with Microsoft-owned Activision to develop, produce, and distribute a live-action film adaptation of Call of Duty, one of the most successful video game franchises in history.

“As a lifelong fan of Call of Duty this is truly a dream come true,” David Ellison, chairman and CEO of Paramount, said in a statement. “From the first Allied campaigns in the original Call of Duty, through Modern Warfare and Black Ops, I’ve spent countless hours playing this franchise that I absolutely love.”

Paramount and Activision said the film will stay true to Call of Duty’s “rich narrative and distinctive style,” promising an experience that resonates with fans. The franchise has been the top-selling video game series in the U.S. for 16 straight years, with over 500 million copies sold worldwide, according to the companies.

“I can promise that we are resolute in our mission to deliver a cinematic experience that honors the legacy of this one-in-a-million brand,” Ellison said.

The Call of Duty project marks another high-profile move for Paramount following its merger with Skydance in early August. Shortly after the deal closed, the studio signed Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer to a four-year pact covering films, television, and streaming projects. Paramount also secured U.S. rights to the UFC in a $7.7 billion, seven-year agreement set to begin in 2026.
