OpenAI unveils ChatGPT for teachers

OpenAI employees consider selling $6bn stock

OpenAI on Wednesday introduced ChatGPT for Teachers, a new version of its AI chatbot built specifically for United States K–12 educators and school districts.

The tool allows teachers to securely handle student information, access personalized instructional support, and collaborate with colleagues across their district.

District leaders will also have administrative controls to set how the system is used within their schools.

OpenAI said the rollout begins with a select group of districts representing about 150,000 educators.

ChatGPT for Teachers will be free for all K–12 educators through June 2027, the company added.

“Our objective here is to make sure that teachers have access to AI tools as well as a teacher-focused experience so they can truly guide AI use,” Leah Belsky, vice president of education at OpenAI, told reporters during a briefing.

The company added that student data will be protected and that any information shared through ChatGPT for Teachers will not be used to train its models.
