OpenAI plans to release a new artificial intelligence model called “Strawberry,” designed to enhance reasoning capabilities, as part of its ChatGPT service in the next two weeks, according to a report from The Information on Tuesday.
The report, citing two individuals who have tested the model, suggests that Strawberry sets itself apart by focusing on “thinking” before responding to queries, rather than delivering immediate answers like other conversational AI models.
Under the leadership of CEO Sam Altman, OpenAI has sparked a surge in AI-related interest and investment, with companies vying to integrate the technology into their products. The Microsoft-backed AI firm announced last week that it now boasts over 1 million paying users for its business-oriented products, driven by strong demand for its advanced chatbot powered by its large language models.
Strawberry, while part of the ChatGPT ecosystem, is reportedly a standalone offering. However, details about how it will be integrated or marketed remain unclear. The Information also reported that Strawberry will initially be limited to handling text, lacking the ability to process images, meaning it will not yet be a multimodal system.
In July, Reuters exclusively revealed that OpenAI had been developing this reasoning-focused AI model under the codename Strawberry.
