Staff of the AI company OpenAI’s has threatened to quit and join former boss Sam Altman at Microsoft’s new division if the board does not reinstate Altman.

In response to the company’s recent decision to fire Sam Altman, the majority of OpenAI’s 700 employees have given the board an ultimatum, threatening to quit unless they accept Sam Altman’s reinstatement as CEO, cofounder, and former president Greg Brockman.

“The process through which you terminated Sam Altman and removed Greg Brockman from the board has jeopardized all of this work and undermined our mission and company. We are unable to work for or with people that lack competence, judgment and care for our mission and employees.” the protesting staff said in a letter shared on X addressed to the board.

“Microsoft has assured that there are positions for all OpenAI employees at this new subsidiary should we choose to join.” the letter added that there are jobs waiting for them at Microsoft if they quit OpenAI

The letter was signed by several high-ranking employees of OpenAI, such as the recently terminated acting CEO, Mira Murati, Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI’s chief scientist and board member of OpenAI, who came under fire for allegedly taking part in the first boardroom decision to remove Altman.
