Anthropic, an OpenAI rival, unveiled Claude 3.5 Sonnet, its most potent AI model to date, on Thursday.
Claude is among the chatbots that have become quite popular in the last year, along with Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Amazon, Salesforce, Google, and former OpenAI research executives are among the investors in Anthropic. It has closed five finance agreements totaling approximately $7.3 billion in the last year.
This follows Anthropic’s debut of its Claude 3 family of models in March and OpenAI’s GPT-4o in May. The company said Claude the 3.5 Sonnet is faster than its previous leading model, Claude 3 Opus, and is the first model from Anthropic’s new Claude 3.5 family, according to CNBC.
Claude 3.5 Sonnet is offered free on the website of the company and in the Claude iPhone app. Subscribers to Claude Pro and Team can however access the most recent model, which has higher rate limits.
The company said in a blog post “It shows marked improvement in grasping nuance, humor, and complex instructions, and is exceptional at writing high-quality content with a natural, relatable tone,” the company said in a blog post.
Along with tech behemoths like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta, startups like Anthropic and OpenAI are participating in an AI arms race to incorporate the technology to stay ahead of a market that is expected to generate over $1 trillion in sales in the next ten years.
Co-founder of Anthropic, Daniela Amodei said that the strategy for enterprises, called Team, had been developed over the previous few quarters and entailed beta-testing with 30 to 50 clients in the legal, financial, health, and technology sectors.
Amodei noted that many of those same customers requested a specialized enterprise solution, which served as inspiration for the service’s concept.
“So much of what we were hearing from enterprise businesses is people are kind of using Claude at the office already,” Amodei added.
The co-founder of Instagram, Mike Krieger became chief product officer of Anthropic last month, not long after the business unveiled its new product.
