OpenAI has successfully restored its widely-used AI chatbot service, ChatGPT, following a significant global outage that affected millions of users.

The outage was documented on OpenAI’s service status tracker, showing that the company began addressing the initial issue at 12:21 AM PDT on June 4. This problem was resolved by 4:19 AM PDT.

However, a subsequent outage occurred, prompting another investigation at 7:33 AM PDT. By 10:17 AM PDT, OpenAI announced that all systems were fully operational.

The service disruption impacted users worldwide during the early hours Pacific Time, with many taking to social media platforms X and Threads to report the issue.

In an update on the situation, OpenAI stated, “We experienced a major outage impacting all users on all plans of ChatGPT. The impact included all ChatGPT-related services but did not affect platform.openai.com or the API. This incident started on June 4th at 2:15 PM GMT and was resolved by 5:01 PM GMT.” The company did not provide additional details about the cause of the outage.

ChatGPT boasts more than 100 million weekly users, according to OpenAI. Over the past 30 days, the platform has experienced a few partial outages, the most notable of which occurred last month when users were unable to access web results due to a Bing API outage.
