OpenAI has announced that it is expanding custom instructions to free users in an effort to provide users more control over how ChatGPT responds.

Users can set different preferences and criteria for the AI chatbot to take into account while answering with this functionality, which was first introduced in July as a beta for ChatGPT Plus members.

By eliminating the need to repeat the same instructions each time they communicate with the chatbot, the feature can save consumers time.

The functionality was introduced in July, and OpenAI provided an example of how a teacher using ChatGPT to develop a lesson plan would no longer need to repeatedly state that they teach third grade in order to get a response that was properly tailored.

Developers utilising the feature can request that the chatbot respond in the languages they want, or they can choose to ignore those they don’t.

Custom instructions, on the other hand, were only available up until this week to subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, which costs $20 per month. The choice is now available to both free and Plus customers on iOS and Android.

The company said the feature will soon be made available throughout the EU and the UK.
