The Nigeria Customs Service, Area 2 Command in Onne, Rivers State, has reported a record revenue generation of N643 billion for 2024, surpassing its annual target of N618 billion by N25 billion.
This achievement represents 103% of the command’s revenue goal and marks a historic milestone for the command.
Area Controller, Mr. Muhammed Babandede, disclosed this significant achievement during a news briefing in Onne on Tuesday, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.
He highlighted that the 2024 revenue exceeded the previous year’s target by an impressive N321 billion, underscoring the command’s commitment to excellence in trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations.
Babandede attributed the success to improved revenue collection strategies, increased export activities, and a strengthened anti-smuggling campaign. He noted that the command had seized a total of 76 containers with a duty-paid value of over N150 billion, including arms, ammunition, illicit medicines, vegetable oil, footwear, donkey skin, and used clothing.
In addition to its anti-smuggling efforts, the command earned recognition as the best-performing command in anti-smuggling operations. Babandede expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for the award, calling it a morale booster for the officers.
The command also made significant confiscations, including one million bottles of cough syrup, 500,000 bottles of diclofenac, and sanitary wares used to conceal illicit drugs. A recent seizure of 12 containers, valued at over N20 million, further contributed to the total revenue.
Moreover, Onne Command recorded notable success in agro-commodity and solid mineral exports, generating over N1 billion in revenue from exports like aluminum ingots, granular urea, orange peels, sesame seeds, and wheat bran.
