First Bank Nigeria Limited has appointed Ebenezer Olufowose to succeed Tunde Hassan-Odukale as the chairman of the board of the bank.
This was disclosed by the bank in the notice filed with the Nigerian Exchange Group on Thursday.
Odukale’s departure marks the end of his 12 years of service on the board, which corresponds to tenure guidelines laid down by the Central Bank of Nigeria for non-executive directors.
The statement reads “FBN Holdings plc (the Company) hereby notifies the ngx and the investing public of the completion of the tenure of the Chairman of its flagship subsidiary – First Bank of Nigeria Limited (FirstBank), Mr. Tunde Hassan-Odukale.
“This follows the completion of the cumulative number of years, which is 12(twelve) years for a Non-Executive Director, in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Corporate Governance Guidelines.
“Consequently, the Board of First Bank has appointed Mr. Ebenezer Olufowose, a NON-Executive Director, as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of FirstBank of Nigeria Limited.”
In the statement, Ebenezer Olufowose was appointed to the Board of Directors of First Bank of Nigeria Limited on 29 April 2021. He is the Group Managing Director of First Ally Capital Limited, an investment banking firm based in Lagos. With over three decades of working in the financial services industry.
Ebenezer brings skills from Corporate Finance, Project Finance, and Investment Banking to the Board. Before joining the First Bank Board, he was Executive Director at Access Bank Plc and Citibank Nigeria, where he led Citigroup’s origination, structuring, and execution of corporate finance and investment banking transactions in Nigeria.
Olufowose is a first-class honours degree holder in Economics from the University of Lagos and holds an MA in International Economics from the University of Sussex, England.
He is an Alumnus of the Harvard Business School and the Lagos Business School, an Honorary Senior Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, a Fellow of the Institute of Credit Administration, and a Fellow of the Association of Investment Advisers and Portfolio Managers.
