The naira exchanged at varying rates across Nigeria’s official and parallel foreign exchange markets, as the United States dollar-to-naira rate continued to attract close attention on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
According to the latest data from the Central Bank of Nigeria, the naira traded at N1,329.43 to the US dollar on September 1 at the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, with the currency closing the day at N1,329.00 per dollar. The NFEM rate is derived from the volume-weighted average of transactions conducted in the official market.
This implies that, based on the latest official NFEM figures, $1 was valued at approximately N1,329.43, while $100 was equivalent to about N132,943.
At the parallel market, however, the dollar continued to trade above the official NFEM rate.
Live data released on September 2 by Aboki Forex indicated that the dollar was being bought at around N1,400 and sold at N1,405 in the parallel market.
A separate market tracker, NairaToday, put the parallel-market rate at approximately N1,410 per dollar, reflecting the disparities that often exist among dealers and locations within the unregulated market.
The gap between the official NFEM rate and the parallel-market figures continues to highlight the divide between regulated foreign exchange transactions and rates shaped by supply and demand outside the formal banking sector.
For Nigerians engaging in the purchase or sale of foreign currency, actual rates may differ depending on the dealer, location, transaction size and prevailing market conditions, as parallel-market rates are known to fluctuate several times within a single day.
As at September 2, therefore, the official NFEM benchmark stood at about N1,329.43 to the dollar, while the parallel market quoted the dollar within the range of N1,400 to N1,410.
The rates remain subject to further changes as forex trading continues throughout the day.
