The Central Bank of Nigeria has firmly denied allegations that it plans to revoke the licenses of Unity Bank, Polaris Bank, and Keystone Bank.

This clarification follows an online report that claimed the apex bank was set to withdraw the licenses of these three financial institutions, sparking concerns among customers and stakeholders. The rumor gained traction after the recent revocation of Heritage Bank’s operating license.

In a statement posted on its official social media pages on Tuesday, the CBN categorically stated that the circulating information is “fake and not from the CBN.”

The false report suggested that the CBN was considering revoking the licenses of Unity, Polaris, and Keystone banks. However, the apex bank’s prompt denial has quelled these rumors, reassuring the public that no such plans are in place.

Earlier, on Monday, June 4, The Nation reported that the CBN had revoked Heritage Bank’s license due to its inability to improve financial performance and a lack of reasonable prospects for recovery, posing a threat to financial stability.

While the CBN’s decision regarding Heritage Bank has been executed, the recent statement confirms that Unity, Polaris, and Keystone banks are not subject to similar actions at this time.
