The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, has stated that he has no interest in acquiring TikTok.
He confirmed that he has not made a bid for the platform and has no plans to do so, during the WELT Economic Summit on January 28.
“I have not put in a bid for TikTok,” Elon said plainly in a video call. “I don’t have any plans for what I would do if I had TikTok. I literally don’t know.”
The Chinese-owned app, which has about 170 million monthly users in the U.S., faced a potential ban on January 20 over national security concerns.
However, President Donald Trump gave ByteDance a 75-day extension to find a non-Chinese buyer.
The extension was mandated by a bill signed by former President Joe Biden in April.
Elon Musk stated that he usually prefers building businesses from scratch rather than acquiring existing companies.
He explained that his purchase of X was driven by his long-standing commitment to protecting free speech.
