The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has drilled four oil wells in the Kolmani area of Bauchi State, reinforcing its push to expand oil and gas exploration in northern Nigeria.
This development represents a key milestone in unlocking the region’s hydrocarbon resources and aligns with broader national objectives to strengthen energy security and infrastructure.
NNPCL Director Yusuf Usman revealed the update on Wednesday during a two-day interactive session hosted by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna.
Usman added that the company is currently evaluating suitable technologies for the next phase of drilling in Kolmani, and reiterated NNPCL’s commitment to deepening exploration efforts across the North.
“The Director at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) says the company has drilled four oil wells in the Kolmani area of Bauchi State.
“So far, the NNPCL has drilled four wells in the Kolmani area of Bauchi State and is currently evaluating the appropriate technology to be deployed for the next phase of drilling operations.
“In support of President Bola Tinubu’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative, five CNG and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants are also under construction in Kogi State,” he said.
He noted that the initiatives are intended to enhance energy access and supply in northern Nigeria, reflecting NNPCL’s support for the current administration’s drive to strengthen national energy capacity and ensure balanced infrastructure development across all regions.
In May 2025, NNPCL announced its plans to restart drilling operations at the Kolmani oil field, located along the border of Bauchi and Gombe States.
The field is a key component of the Kolmani Integrated Development Project, which represents Nigeria’s first significant oil discovery in the northern region.
