The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mele Kyari, has won the 2024 Nigeria Union of Journalists Good Governance Award.

This was disclosed in a statement via a post on the official X handle of NNPCL on Sunday.

Kyari was presented with this award at a dinner and ceremony of the NUJ’s Good Governance Awards at the Barcelona Hotels in Abuja.

According to the statement, the award was given for his significant contribution to the promotion of transparency and good governance within the NNPC Limited.

The statement reads “Group CEO of NNPC Limited, Mr. Mele Kyari has won the 2024 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Good Governance Award, in recognition of his significant contributions to promoting transparency and good governance in the NNPC Limited.

“Represented by the Chief Financial Officer of the Company, Mr. Umar Ajiya, Kyari received the award at a ceremony held during the NUJ’s Good Governance Awards Night & Dinner at the Barcelona Hotels, yesterday, in Abuja.”

Kyari has recently had a disagreement with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria over the scarcity of fuel across the country.

The NNPCL boss blamed IPMAN for the shortage of fuel and the long queues at filling stations nationwide.

However, in response, IPMAN denied his claims citing that NNPCL was the sole importer of petrol in Nigeria.
