NNPC seals 20-year gas supply deal with Ssonic

Nigerian National Petroleum Gas Marketing Ltd, a subsidiary of NNPC Ltd, has signed a Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement with Ssonic Petroleum Ltd to supply natural gas to its proposed LNG plant in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos State.

According to a statement by the NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi O. Soneye, the agreement was executed in partnership with NGML’s Unincorporated Joint Venture partner, NIPCO Gas Ltd.

Soneye stated that under the agreement, the NGML-NIPCO UJV will supply 80 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day to the Ssonic Petroleum LNG plant for 20 years.

The statement read, “Under the terms of the agreement which was executed on Thursday, 6th March, 2025, the NGML-NIPCO UJV will supply 80 million standard cubic feet (mmscf) per day of natural gas to the Ssonic Petroleum LNG plant for a period of 20 years.

“The gas supply agreement is part of efforts by the NNPC Ltd to boost domestic gas utilisation for the nation’s industrial and economic growth and promote the use of gas as a cleaner, cheaper and more environmentally friendly fuel in keeping with the goal of reducing global warming.”

This deal supports Nigeria’s gas commercialization efforts and is expected to enhance energy supply, attract investment, and drive industrial growth in the Lekki industrial Zone.
