The National Identity Management Commission has reiterated that enrollment for the National Identification Number is free of charge.

This follows complaints from some Nigerians about extortion at various NIN registration points across the country.

However, in a statement on Sunday, the commission stated it neither charges nor authorizes any of its staff or Front-End Partners to charge applicants for registration.

“The commission does not charge nor authorise any staff or its Front End Partners (FEP) to charge applicants for the NIN enrolment.

“To this end, the commission has directed security agencies to track any staff or FEPs caught extorting applicants for NIN enrollment,” the statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, Dr Kayode Adegoke, said.

In the statement, Adegoke warned that anyone caught extorting money would be sanctioned according to the law, and the license of the responsible FEP would be revoked.

He urged the public to report any staff or FEP demanding money for enrollment via the email [email protected] or the phone number 07002255646.

He assured that the commission is fully committed to providing seamless enrollment services and preventing extortion.
