The average daily consumption of petrol in Nigeria climbed to 56.74 million litres in October 2025.
This comes from the latest Fact Sheet released by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
According to the regulator, this figure represents the total nationwide demand recorded through all fuel distribution channels for the month.
NMDPRA noted that of the total consumption, 27.6 million litres were imported, compared to 17.08 million litres supplied locally—a continued shift toward domestic production that reflects gradual progress in the government’s drive for self-sufficiency.
The Fact Sheet revealed Nigeria’s sustained high demand for Premium Motor Spirit, with a monthly average of 661.5 million litres consumed from October 2024 to October 2025.
The daily supply to the domestic market in October alone averaged 44.7 million litres.
October’s consumption was the highest in the one-year period, with November 2024 (56 million litres) and April 2025 (55.2 million litres) being the next highest.
The report highlights that the Dangote Refinery supplied an average of 18.03 million litres of PMS daily.
Although still short of its 35 million-litre daily capacity, the NMDPRA hailed this output as a significant milestone for cutting Nigeria’s dependence on imported fuel.
