Nigeria’s box office has hit a new milestone, raking in over N10 billion in ticket sales by the end of August 2025.
This marks a 58% jump from the N6.4 billion recorded in the same period last year, underscoring Nollywood’s growing influence and the resilience of the country’s cinema culture.
Cinema admissions climbed to 1.84 million, up 16 per cent from 1.59 million in 2024, reflecting a steady return of audiences to theatres despite the global shift toward streaming.
The surge has been driven largely by strong Nollywood releases, which continue to dominate the local market.
Industry reports show that Nigerian films made up a substantial share of total revenues, driving not only box office earnings but also strengthening the country’s cultural footprint.
Nollywood’s renewed momentum is being credited to more diverse storytelling, higher production standards, and stronger marketing efforts that continue to pull audiences back to cinemas.
Earlier data highlights this trajectory: in the first half of 2025, the box office grossed N7.75 billion, up 66 per cent from the same period last year.
That momentum extended into the third quarter, with cumulative revenues surpassing N10 billion by August.
At the current pace, industry watchers project that total revenues could top N16 billion by December, a record-breaking milestone for the Nigerian box office.
