One of Nigeria’s leading telecommunications companies, 9mobile, has rebranded as T2 in a major corporate identity overhaul.
The new brand was unveiled on Friday at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.
The name change follows LH Telecommunication Limited’s acquisition of a majority stake in the network provider a year ago.
LH Telecommunication now owns 95.5 percent of 9mobile, resulting in a change of control.
This marks the second time the company has changed its name, having been rebranded from Etisalat to 9mobile in 2017.
At the event, Femi Banigbe, CEO of Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited, called the rebrand “the beginning of a bold new chapter” for the company.
“This is not just a brand unveiling, it is the beginning of a bold new chapter in our history. It is a declaration that we are no longer who we were, but we are becoming something greater. We are becoming something more ambitious,” Gbadegbe said.
He explained that the transformation is more than just a new logo or tagline; it signifies a renewed mission and commitment to customers.
The CEO emphasized that technology has become central to business, culture, and human connection, with Nigerians increasingly seeking speed, access, and relevance.
“We see it in the rising tide of the youth, we see it in the entrepreneurs that are all over the place across our nation, in the boldness of our startup ecosystem, in the resilience of our SMEs, in the desires of our families to stay connected, to stay informed and to stay entertained anytime and anywhere,” he said.
The EMTS CEO stressed that to stay relevant, the company must evolve both radically and pragmatically, reimagining its approach to business.
Tijani assured that the government will continue partnering with industry players like T2 who are “bold enough to invest, agile enough to adapt, and visionary enough to embrace change before it is forced upon them.”
