Health tech startup, MDaaS Global, has raised $3 million in pre-Series A funding targeted at expanding its offerings.
The startup is operating a network of technology enabled diagnostics centers across Nigeria. According to the company’s statement, the investment will be used for the launch of BeaconOS, the proprietary technology platform it launched last year, according to nairametrics.
The seven year old health technology also aims to extend its healthcare network across all of Nigeria by combining company owned and subsidiary clinics.
Aruwa Capital and Newton Partners led the round, the later being the lead investor in the $2.3 million seed extension of the health technology company in 2021. MDaaS also received additional capital from Platform Ventures, bringing its total investment to $6,8 million.
In his remark, Adesua Okunbor Rhodes, founder and managing partner at Aruwa Capital said “We are thrilled to partner with MDaaS Global on their mission to revolutionize healthcare delivery in Africa. MDaaS’ track record of consistent and impressive growth, as well as their dedication to bringing high-quality diagnostics to high-need patients, resonated deeply with us.
“As a gender-lens investor, we are especially excited to support a company that is driving change for women across Nigeria — over 60% of BeaconHealth patients are women, predominantly of reproductive age — and MDaaS shares our commitment to building gender-diverse teams.”
Founded in 2017 by CEO Oluwasoga Oni, Opeyemi Ologun and Genevieve Oni, MDaaS offers a range of services at its diagnostic centers, including imaging such as digital x-ray and ultrasound, cardiac services like ECG and echo, and various lab services spanning chemistry analysis to immunoassay and hematology.
Oluwasoga Oni “Since our previous coverage a few years ago, the startup has expanded its operations significantly, with a current network of 17 diagnostic centers across 10 states. Looking ahead, MDaaS plans to construct an additional 23 centers in the coming years,” Oluwasoga Oni noted.
MDaaS has provided care to more than 275,000 patients since its inception, using the combined healthcare network and BeaconOS’s capabilities. The healthcare professional provided 108,724 patients in the last year alone with women accounting for 60.8% of total patient numbers. In addition, MDaaS carried out more than 240,000 diagnostic tests with chest xrays, urinalysis and full blood counts as the most common procedures done.
