Nigerian edtech startup AltSchool launches in Kenya

Nigerian edtech startup, AltSchool Africa has opened up in Kenya, its second biggest market by revenue, the company’s co-founder, Adewale Yusuf disclosed.

East African nation, Kenya generates the second-highest income for the startup. As a result, AltSchool will now concentrate on offering its Kenyan clients direct assistance in addition to working to expedite local payment processing.

“We are not new to the people, but this will give us the opportunity to expand,” said Yusuf. AltSchool’s Country manager, Tabitha Kayvu will lead the startup’s Kenyan operations.

The company has witnessed an increase in demand for its services outside of Nigeria, despite its initial introduction in 2021 as a virtual platform for individuals to obtain credentials in engineering, data, and business analytics. It is now present in the US and Rwanda, where in 2023 it established an office at the Norrsken hub.

AltSchool highlighted that it has made an impact through important collaborations with Kenyan stakeholders. “We are in talks with different agencies on the ground to make sure that Kenyans have access the right access to the global in-demand skills that Alt school has to offer.”

The edtech company now provides quick courses in content development, sales, and music production. According to Yusuf, the company will continue to provide these services in Kenya and will provide the English-language training. Additionally, plans exist to teach in Swahili.
