Edtech startup AltSchool has announced its expansion into Europe, marking a major milestone in its mission to provide accessible educational opportunities worldwide, TechPoint reported.
The announcement was made during the SuperCharger Ventures Demo Day on Monday, December 2, 2024, after the company completed the prestigious accelerator program.
Having established a strong presence in over seven African countries, AltSchool is now turning its attention to Europe, seeking to scale its impact beyond the African continent. CEO Adewale Yusuf expressed the company’s vision for growth, stating, “At AltSchool, we believe that talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. Our mission is to create accessible pathways for individuals to transform their lives and help businesses build the teams they need to innovate and grow. Expanding to Europe allows us to bring this vision to a region facing its own unique challenges in the workforce.”
SuperCharger Ventures, one of the largest edtech-focused accelerators globally, has provided AltSchool with valuable resources, mentorship, and connections to a network of partners.
The startup aims to leverage this support to fuel its growth in Europe, a market where it has already seen promising traction, particularly in the UK, which ranks third in registered users, after Nigeria and Kenya.
Since its inception, AltSchool has enrolled over 100,000 students in various programs, including engineering, business, creative industries, and cybersecurity. As part of its European expansion, AltSchool is exploring new business models, including business-to-business and business-to-business-to-consumer, to enhance its revenue streams.
Unlike its primarily online model in Africa, the European operations will adopt a hybrid approach, with Malta serving as a base for in-person engagements. The initial focus will be on high-demand fields such as cloud engineering, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data science.
A key goal for AltSchool since its launch in 2021 has been to offer not only skills training but also recognized certifications. In line with this, the company received full accreditation from the Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges, and Universities in February 2024.
Yusuf revealed that AltSchool is in discussions with the Maltese Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation to replicate this accreditation in Malta.
Although AltSchool does not typically promise jobs to its graduates, Yusuf emphasized that the company’s career team is actively working on initiatives to support students in securing employment after completing their programs.
With its expansion into Europe, AltSchool is poised to make a significant impact in the region’s workforce development and educational landscape.
