The Presidency has clarified that no ambassador has yet been deployed to the Republic of Turkey.
In a statement issued on Friday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said only three ambassadors-designate have so far been approved by President Bola Tinubu.
The three ambassadors-designate are those posted to the United States, the United Kingdom, and France.
They include Ayodele Oke as ambassador-designate to France, Colonel Lateef Are as ambassador-designate to the United States, and Amin Dalhatu, former ambassador to South Korea, as high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.
Onanuga noted that the three were approved out of the 68 ambassadors confirmed by the Senate last December.
According to him: “President Tinubu confirmed the postings of Ambassador Ayodele Oke as the ambassador-designate to France, and Colonel Lateef Are as the ambassador-designate to the United States of America.
“Also confirmed by the President is the posting of Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, former ambassador to South Korea, as the high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.
“In a memo to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Tinubu urged the ministry to notify the governments of the three countries about the ambassadors-designate, in accordance with diplomatic procedures.”
However, Onanuga had earlier announced that the President approved four ambassadors-designate, including Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman.
He had stated that Suleiman, a former governor of Kebbi, “is the ambassador-designate to Turkey, where the President is scheduled to begin a state visit next week.”
