The president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday, claimed that broadband penetration was at 100% throughout the nation.
According to The Punch, he disclosed this at the maiden Digital Economy Conference of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, held at the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry complex.
Speaking through the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isah Patami, the President declared that statistics showing that just 43% of the population had access to broadband were inaccurate.
“Among the 54 African nations, Nigeria has the highest internet penetration, according to one of the world’s richest people. Nigeria has a 100% broadband penetration rate as of now, as I speak to you,” Buhari said.
He added that from 23% coverage in 2019 to 100% coverage in 2023, the Federal Government had expanded internet penetration by 77%.
”As of right now, broadband is available everywhere in the nation, even the desert and rural areas. We are the first African nation to do this and the only one to date”, the President said.
