The chairman of FOSSREA, Aliu Hydar Mijinyawa signed an agreement in Abuja on Wednesday, is to boost the Nigerian energy space, according to Businessday.

He defined hydrogen as a fuel of the future that would be used not only in Nigeria but around the world.

He said “Nigeria should be able to put its foot forward so that; we are also in the thick of the hydrogen economy. This informed our decision to venture into this and inform the ministry of this important project.”

Mijinyawa added that FOSSREA was founded to create a forum for Nigerians to contribute to the country in a variety of ways.

He noted, “One key sector we found important that will be beneficial to the country is the energy sector. In the energy sector, we felt that the Ministry of Petroleum Resources should be at the forefront of driving this.

“We believe that it will be an avenue that will be of benefit to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It will go a long way in laying the foundation in attracting investors into the country and deploying the value chain of hydrogen to build a strong hydrogen economy.”

Meanwhile, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Nicholas Agbo Ella stated that the signing of the agreement constituted a watershed moment in Nigeria’s engagement on hydrogen issues.

“As we go about this responsibility, we will be calling upon you from time to time to share your research works, knowledge and expertise with our officers. We want to go hand in hand with you in training and developing the capacities of the officers in this sphere,” he said
