The payment of N900 million as a counterpart fund for the World Bank’s Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes project has been ordered by Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago.
According to Nairametrics, he delivered this command at the start of the distribution of agricultural inputs and seedlings organized by Fadama and ACReSAL in Minna, which will benefit farmers from all twenty-five local government councils.
Additionally, Governor Bago instructed the state Ministry of Finance to oversee the directive’s execution.
In order to fight poverty and attain food self-sufficiency, the 25 local government councils in Niger State would cultivate 25,000 hectares of land next year to combat hunger and achieve food self-sufficiency.
Each local government body will cultivate 10,000 hectares of land under this new policy. The job was given to relevant ministries to work together to find suitable land and crops for each council.
The governor also emphasized the value of productivity in Niger State by urging the state’s youth to take up farming rather than loiter on the streets.
Two 50-kilogram bags of NPK fertilizer, one 50-kilogram bag of urea, two liters of herbicide, one liter of pesticide, ten kilograms of rice and maize, and five kilograms of enhanced sorghum seeds were given out to the recipients.
This action aims to assist farmers and guarantee that the direction to achieve food self-sufficiency is put into practice.
