Netflix is now starting to test its cloud gaming service in the United States after conducting limited trials in Canada and the United Kingdom.

The streamer has acquired gaming studios and licenced games from individual creators as part of the service, an expansion of the company’s mobile gaming activities that started in 2021. The goal is to make gaming another important part of its company.

With its cloud gaming service, Netflix now enables users to use their smartphones as gaming controllers to play its games on smart TVs and TV-connected gadgets like Fire TV, Chromecast, Roku, and others.

The move places Netflix against rival cloud gaming services including Nvidia GeForce Now, PlayStation Plus, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Amazon Luna. However, in the case of Netflix, many of its game titles are connected to its most well-liked episodes and are available for free with a Netflix subscription.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the company is creating video games based on various television programmes, including “Squid Game,” “Wednesday,” and “Black Mirror.”

A “Grand Theft Auto” game from Take-Two Interactive is apparently being released through a licencing agreement, according to the claim.

In addition to completing its selection with generally well-liked games like puzzles, platformers, card games, strategy games, kids’ games, and more, Netflix has already released games linked to popular series like “Love Is Blind,” “The Queen’s Gambit,” “Stranger Things,” “Narcos,” “Nailed It!” and others.

Users can use a specific app on their mobile phone to play the games on TVs. With a keyboard and mouse, games may also be played on Macs and PCs.

Netflix hopes to evaluate its game-streaming technology during the trials and seek to enhance the user experience as the trials are expanded to the United States.
