In a bid to equip young Nigerians with cutting-edge telecommunications skills, the Nigerian Communications Commission has inked a significant Memorandum of Understanding with Nokia Solutions and Networks Nigeria.
This collaboration aims to provide comprehensive training on the latest 4G/5G radio and transmission technologies.
The Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maina, unveiled this development via his social media platform, emphasizing the nationwide scope of the training, which will be conducted at the Commission’s Digital Parks across the country.
Under the terms of the MoU, Nokia Nigeria will establish a fully functional 5G/4G test lab, leveraging its state-of-the-art radio and transmission technologies.
Dr. Maina hailed this partnership as a milestone in advancing Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, enhancing the capacity and skills-set of its citizens to adapt to the industry’s rapid evolution.
Furthermore, the collaboration extends to the establishment of a dedicated training center by Nokia to educate 200 Nigerian students. This initiative aligns with the national goal of bolstering digital literacy and cultivating technical talents, as articulated by the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.
Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister responsible for this sector, reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving 90% digital literacy by 2030 through initiatives like the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy.
He underscored the inclusive nature of this endeavor, targeting not only the youth but also older demographics, ensuring that no one is left behind in the digital transformation journey.
Addressing the broader societal implications, Dr. Tijani emphasized the importance of bridging the digital divide and fostering a technology-savvy populace.
By onboarding individuals without prior technological exposure, the government seeks to create an inclusive digital economy wherein technology is accessible and comprehensible to all segments of society.
In essence, this collaborative effort between the NCC and Nokia represents a significant stride towards enhancing Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and fostering a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and economic growth in the digital age.
