NCAA issues warning after unruly Ibom Air passenger 'attacked' crew

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has issued a warning to air travellers following an incident in which a passenger assaulted an air hostess on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, disrupting operations at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Sunday.

A viral video on social media showed the woman, wearing a white top and black trousers, confronting airport officials before slapping a crew member. Police later intervened to restore order.

NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, said the altercation began after the passenger refused to obey crew instructions. He stressed the need for travellers to comply with safety directives, particularly those given during take-off and landing.

“When cabin crew ask you to turn off your phone before take-off or landing, simply comply,” Achimugu said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter). He added that minor issues should not escalate into confrontations and reminded travellers that safe air travel depends on both passenger rights and responsibilities.

The warning comes days after the NCAA imposed a six-month flying ban on Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM1, for misconduct at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
