The president of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association, Hajiya Nana Gambo, has encouraged women in Delta State to fully utilize the entrepreneurial training that is available at the NOWA skill acquisition center located in Oghara.
This was during the graduation ceremony for the first edition of the NOWA skill acquisition program that had trained 21 students in various entrepreneurial skills.
According to PUNCH Metro, the 21 graduates who completed the skill acquisition program received intensive training in different skills like catering services and fashion designing over the past few months.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at the Nigerian Navy Logistics Command barracks in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, Hajiya Nana Gambo addressed the graduands and emphasized that the primary objective of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association is to help individuals realize their full potential through the development of entrepreneurial skills. She served as the special guest of honor at the event.
Mrs. Juwaira Garuba, who represented Gambo at the ceremony, stressed the significance of investing in vocational skills as a means of tackling unemployment and its negative effects on society. She emphasized that vocational training is a critical component in addressing the issue of unemployment.
In her speech, Hajiya Nana Gambo highlighted the importance of skill acquisition, stating that it cannot be ignored, especially in the current global climate where unemployment has become a major concern. She underscored the significance of vocational training as a way to empower people with the skills they need to be self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to society.
In her words, “I will like to thank Almighty Allah for making this day a reality as NOWA strives to empower women to be more productive and self-reliant through creation of income-earning opportunities for attainment of sustainable livelihood.
“No doubt, the prevalence of unemployment to an extent breeds insecurity including trafficking
“Undeniably, one of the ways to ameliorate this challenge is to invest in entrepreneurship programmes that will maximise potentials through skill acquisition for self-reliance.”
According to Gambo, the Naval Officers’ Wives Association is committed to promoting the empowerment of young people, orphans, and widows by utilizing available resources to foster self-reliance and sustainability.
She stated, “We will continue to strive to ensure the empowerment of youths, orphans, and widows within our resources for self-reliance and sustenance.”
Gambo expressed her appreciation to Mrs. Rhoda Olotu, the NOWA Zonal Coordinator of the Oghara chapter, and Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, the Flag Officer Commanding Logistics Command, for their efforts in ensuring the smooth operation of the skill acquisition center.
Gambo praised the graduates, instructors, and facilitators for their hard work in achieving the objectives of the association.
The NOWA Zonal Coordinator, Mrs. Rhoda Olotu of the Oghara chapter, welcomed attendees to the ceremony and reported that the skill acquisition center, established in 2021, has made significant strides in terms of staffing, equipment, and training programs.
