Zimbabwe experienced a nationwide electricity blackout on Thursday following a system failure that caused both of its power stations to stop generating electricity.
This was disclosed in a press statement by the national power utility Zesa Holdings Ltd.
Additionally, imports of electricity from South Africa, Zambia, and Mozambique were disrupted.
“Restoration efforts are underway, and power has been already restored to some areas,” the utility, Zesa said.
Zimbabwe’s electricity is mainly produced from two key facilities: the Hwange Power Station, with an installed capacity of 1,500 megawatts, and the Kariba Hydroelectric Power Plant, which can generate up to 1,050 megawatts.
Major businesses were disrupted as a result of the outage.
