The Nigeria National Grid Centre has denied reports of a national grid collapse on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

In a post on its official X handle, the Centre addressed the rumors, which had been widely circulated, and confirmed that the grid remained stable.

It said in its post “Kindly ignore rumour of a grid collapse today. It is false!”

It was earlier reported that the National Grid experienced its first collapse of the year today.

According to the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), the collapse occurred at 1:56pm.

The portal then followed with an update: “Restoration has begun. Currently generating 302MW as of 02:40 pm.”

The Nigeria National Grid Centre has however debunked the rumor, stating the reports were false.

This incident follows a pattern of power instability, with the grid reportedly suffering about 12 consecutive collapses in 2024.
