Elon Musk announced on Tuesday that xAI’s artificial intelligence chatbot, Grok, will now be available to all premium subscribers of the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
This disclosure came through a post on X, although Musk withheld further details. Notably, Grok was previously accessible only to Premium+ subscribers.
Amidst a shifting landscape where more advertisers are distancing themselves from the microblogging platform, Musk has emphasized the importance of reducing the company’s reliance on advertising revenue. In response, he has directed his attention towards developing more enticing subscription plans.
Earlier this month, Musk disclosed plans for xAI to open-source Grok, following a legal dispute with OpenAI over allegations of deviating from its original mission in favor of a profit-oriented approach.
This strategic move is poised to grant the public free access to explore the underlying code of the technology, aligning xAI with industry counterparts such as Meta and France’s Mistral, both of which have embraced open-source AI models.
