Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has begun testing a standalone iOS app for its chatbot, Grok, which was previously exclusive to users of X (formerly Twitter).

The app is currently available in beta in Australia and select countries, offering a range of generative AI capabilities.

Grok allows users to access real-time data from the web and X, rewrite text, summarize lengthy paragraphs, answer questions, and even generate images from text prompts. “Grok is an AI-powered assistant designed to be maximally truthful, useful, and curious,” the app listing states, emphasizing its ability to answer questions, create striking images, and analyze uploaded pictures.

xAI is also developing a dedicated website, Grok.com, to extend the chatbot’s availability online. Although the site is not yet operational, it promises to launch soon, with users currently greeted by a “coming soon” message.

Initially limited to X’s paying subscribers, Grok began testing a free version in November. Earlier this month, xAI expanded access to all users, broadening its reach.

One of Grok’s standout features is its image generator, which excels at photorealistic rendering. Unlike other AI tools, xAI imposes fewer restrictions, allowing users to create images using public figures and copyrighted materials, raising questions about potential use cases and implications.
