Elon Musk has called on leading artificial intelligence companies to collaborate by testing one another’s AI models before releasing them to the public, amid growing concerns over the potential risks of the technology and calls for stronger government regulation.

Speaking at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles on Monday, the SpaceX CEO said xAI, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta and “three or four of the leading Chinese companies” should allow their competitors to run a “test harness” on their models to assess their safety.

“So, you know, instead of grading your own homework, you would at least have competitors grading your homework and raising the alarm if they see concerns,” Musk said.

The debate over AI regulation has intensified after the heads of Anthropic, OpenAI and other leading AI companies spent the weekend warning about the technology’s potential risks and calling for a slowdown in model development.

Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman were among the technology leaders who supported Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s proposal for a slowdown, in a rare display of unity among the industry’s top executives.

The call by leading AI executives came amid broader concerns about the potential impact of artificial intelligence on humanity, after AI researchers raised alarms last week following a post by Jacob Coxon, who announced his departure from Anthropic.

Coxon, who had previously worked at OpenAI, said leading AI labs were “gambling with our lives.” His comments drew support from other researchers, including Evan Hubinger, an alignment lead at Anthropic.

The Trump administration has resisted calls from technology leaders for tighter restrictions on artificial intelligence.

President Donald Trump posted repeatedly on Truth Social on Monday, dismissing concerns about AI and describing fears over the technology as a “hoax” and a “scam.”
