MTN partners auto manufacturers to boost local content

MTN Nigeria to build infrastructure for network platform

MTN Nigeria has partnered with automobile manufacturers Nord and GAC Motors to support local content policy and promote made-in-Nigeria products.

As part of the collaboration, the company procured 33 vehicles for its customer-facing teams in Lagos and the North, including 22 locally assembled cars.

The remaining 11 vehicles further strengthen MTN’s operational initiatives, the company stated on Friday.

MTN stated that the vehicles, regarded as essential tools for trade, would improve customer engagement by enabling smoother field operations.

It said this initiative aligns with efforts to boost local content in the telecom sector.

In July 2021, the Nigerian Communications Commission established the Nigeria Office for Developing the Indigenous Telecoms Sector to enforce the Nigerian National Local Content Policy.

Speaking at the handover ceremony at MTN’s Lagos headquarters, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at MTN Nigeria, Lynda Saint-Nwafor, emphasized the partnership’s role in reinforcing the company’s commitment to local content policy.

“At MTN, we maintain a stance on promoting local content development in Nigeria by enabling local supply chains through local procurement.”

Nwafor further detailed how this partnership supports MTN’s logistics model: “We had some challenges over the years. The logistics model we initially wanted to adopt didn’t work, so we had to revert to the old model. This model allows our sales and client success teams to better commute to customer locations.”

With over 80 million subscribers, MTN Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to creating shared value and contributing to a sustainable and inclusive economy.
