Mozilla said that Firefox for Android would soon enable an open ecosystem of extensions in a note to developers.
highlighting the fact that Firefox will now be the sole popular Android browser to enable such an ecosystem for extensions as a result of the decision.
With the upgrade, Firefox users with Android smartphones should soon be able to use more than just the few extensions that are now offered.
Users have been demanding a change for complete extension support ever since the Fenix makeover three years ago, when Firefox only allowed a tiny fraction of add-ons.
In order to satisfy these requests, Mozilla has announced that it will allow an open ecosystem of extensions for Firefox for Android on addons.mozilla.org.
The company’s present timeline is a little hazy; it just mentions “the coming months” with the caveat that “it’s safe to expect a roll-out before the year’s end.”
