The Nigeria Customs Service, Muritala Muhammed Airport Command, reported a revenue of N74.28 billion between January and October.
According to The Punch, the command’s chief Customs Area Controller, Muhammad Yusuf, told reporters in the command on Wednesday that income had increased by 23% over the same period in 2022 compared to N60.1 billion.
Additionally, he stated that the command stopped N3.1 billion worth of tramadol from entering Nigeria from Pakistan and India during the time under consideration.
“It demonstrates a progressive difference of N14.23bn, indicating a 23% rise in revenue when compared to N60.1m earned in 2022,” he stated.
According to Yusuf, the command has achieved 76.3% of its yearly goal thus far using the figure.
“It was made possible by the officers’ tenacity in making sure that agents were required to make accurate declarations and to strictly follow import/export guidelines in conjunction with existing laws,” Yusuf said.
The head of MMA Customs clarified that the shipment of unregistered pharmaceutical products, which were allegedly tramadol was stopped because it appeared to exceed the Federal Government’s approved threshold.
“The command has seized unlicensed medicinal items in the context of anti-smuggling operations that it believes to be Tramadol tablets. The consignment was suspected of surpassing the Federal Government-approved level, which led to its interception. The value of the cumulative duty paid value of the items mentioned above stood at N3.1bn,” he added.
Nonetheless, he advised the command’s officers to continue being firm and determined in their performance of their duties.
