Minister leads energy operators to gas conference in China

Nigeria is set to make a powerful impression at the World Gas Conference 2025, with a delegation spearheaded by Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, the Nigerian Gas Association announced.

The triennial gathering of global energy leaders will see robust participation from Nigeria’s government and energy sector.

According to the NGA, Ekpo will take center stage as a speaker alongside international energy experts, underscoring Nigeria’s rising prominence in the global gas market.

The event offers a key opportunity for Nigeria to highlight its gas sector achievements and strengthen ties with global industry players.

Accompanying the minister are the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed; the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mr Bayo Ojulari; the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Felix Ogbe; the Coordinating Director, Decade of Gas, Ed Ubong; the NGA President, Mr. Akachukwu Nwokedi; among others.

The statement emphasized that NGA’s participation underscores its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s role in global energy discussions, positioning natural gas as a central driver of the country’s economic future and a key contributor to the global energy transition.

It also noted that prominent players in the gas sector—such as NLNG, Shell Nigeria, First E&P, Axxela, ND Western, Aradel PLC, Aiteo, Tetracore, Xenergi, Peiyang Chemical Engineering, ENTEC Power, Neconde Energy, Shoreline, and Oando—are supporting the NGA-led initiative, with backing from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, NNPC Ltd, and other major stakeholders across the Nigerian gas value chain.

“These industry players will converge at the Nigerian Pavilion, a dedicated platform through which the NGA and the Decade of Gas Secretariat will showcase the country’s vast gas resources and promote investment opportunities and policy advancements at the WGC 2025. This support reinforces their leadership in Nigeria’s energy sector and their shared commitment to shaping the global energy narrative,” the statement added.

Speaking on the significance of the industry representation, NGA President, Nwokedi, stated, “What we’re witnessing is a strategic convergence of the government and industry rallying behind one mission, which is to elevate Nigeria’s energy narrative and position the country as a reliable, future-facing energy partner.

“WGC 2025 is more than an event; it’s a statement of Africa’s energy renaissance. The Honourable Minister’s participation alongside his Delegation sends a clear message, reflecting that Nigeria is not just open for gas investment; we are leading the charge for Africa’s energy transformation.”

The conference is scheduled to take place from May 19 to 23, 2025, at the China National Convention Centre in Beijing. It will bring together over 30,000 participants, 600 companies, and 400 expert speakers to explore the future of the gas industry under the theme, ‘Energising a Sustainable Future’.

Commenting on his leadership of the Nigerian Delegation to the WGC 2025, Ekpo, said, “It is a great honour to lead the Nigerian delegation to the World Gas Conference in Beijing. As we pursue the goals of the Decade of Gas, this conference provides a vital platform to showcase Nigeria’s vast gas potential, deepen international partnerships, and attract critical investments that will drive sustainable growth and enhance energy security for our nation and continent.”
