Minecraft has emerged as the bestselling video game of all time with the announcement that it has sold a staggering 300 million copies on Sunday.
“As we approach the 15th anniversary, Minecraft remains one of the best-selling games of all time, with over 300 million copies sold, a milestone no one could have dreamed of when we were all placing our first blocks,” head of Mojang Studios, Helen Chiang, said in a statement.
The new achievement was revealed at Minecraft Live 2023, a livestream event for the game that also offers a fun voting element where players can choose which new species they think should be included in the game. You can pick from a crab, an armadillo, or a penguin this year.
Minecraft has sold 300,000,000 copies, which is no minor accomplishment. Around 155 million PS2 consoles, the most popular model, were sold. With 185 million claimed sales, Grand Theft Auto V, the second-best-selling video game of all time, is nowhere near as popular as Minecraft. The game Minecraft is in a league of its own and probably always will be.
