Microsoft announced on Wednesday the official launch of its AI-powered Designer app, moving it out of preview to become accessible to all users on iOS and Android.
Similar to Canva, this app allows users to generate images and designs using text prompts, enabling creations such as stickers, greeting cards, invitations, collages, and more.
Designer is now available in over 80 languages on the web, as a free mobile app, and on Windows. The app features “prompt templates” designed to kickstart creativity. These templates offer styles and descriptions that users can customize and share with others to collaborate on ideas.
In addition to stickers, Designer supports the creation of emojis, clip art, wallpapers, monograms, avatars, and more using text prompts. It also includes AI-powered editing features for images. Soon, Designer will introduce a “replace background” feature, allowing users to transform images using text prompts.
With the standalone Designer app launch, Microsoft also announced integration with apps like Word and PowerPoint through Copilot. Subscribers to Copilot Pro can seamlessly create images and designs within their workflow.
In the near future, Word users will have the option to generate a banner for their document based on its content.
As part of Wednesday’s update, Microsoft revealed deeper integration of Designer with Microsoft Photos on Windows 11. Users can now use AI directly within the Photos app to edit photos, including tasks like object removal, background removal, and auto-cropping. This integration enhances the editing capabilities available to users without needing to leave the Photos app interface.
